Dodo Was Made For Heaven

Dodo was made for heaven, dodo was made for heaven

What could have a purer soul than a flightless bird
With a friendly walk he greeted all, this flightless bird

Nothing was vicious in Mauritius
Nothing was vicious in Mauritius
Nothing was vicious in Mauritius
'Til the soldiers came...

Dodo was made for heaven, dodo was made for heaven

No one saw a purer soul than a flightless bird
With a friendly walk he greeted all, this flightless bird

Cause nothing was vicious in Mauritius
Nothing was vicious in Mauritius
Nothing was vicious in Mauritius
'Til the soldiers came...

We're all born dodos
We're all born dodos
We all die rhinocerii
With horns and blistered skin
Rhinocerii...

Quotes:
Dan: Dodo Was Made For Heaven started as just a musical idea - trying to get a deep hymnal feel from two voices separated by a third and an octave. Which led to talk of heaven, which somehow ended up on dodos. The message is just that we're all born dodos (sweet and trusting), then we get screwed (and screw others) and die rhinocerii, with horns and blistered skin. This was recorded very, very quickly - everything was pretty much a first-take, hence the wobbly notes and slightly empty-sounding chorus (I was planning to fill it with more guitar, or a Rhodes or organ or something). Saying that though, it's so Ooberman in its sentimentality and irreverence. My favourite bit is the repeating bit at the end. The 'mandolins' are just two tracks of me plicking at my crap acoustic guitar.
