13

Hot water gets the grease off and darling the kettle's boiling
My life died and I'm pie-eyed and there's saucers in the corners

And all I seem to do these days is lounge around at home
Waiting for the world to wear me down
Waiting for the world to wear him down

I used to love the sunset, I used to dream of spacecraft, honey
Wish I was still thirteen
Wish I was still thirteen
Wish I was still thriteen, poking my telescope at my...!

I've been there and I've done that and I love you and you're boring
Six months and the stars shine, then the stars shine a little dimmer

But all I seem to do these days is lounge around at home
Waiting for my bed to kick me out
Waiting for his bed to kick him out

I used to love the sunset, I used to dream of spacecraft, honey
Wish I was still thirteen
Wish I was still thirteen
Wish I was still thriteen, poking my telescope at my neighbours

I was always alone with my telescope, spectrum spectrum, machine code Z80A

Beta calling for a 9030
Roger. Engage!
Open fire!
Hot diggety dawg!
Engage! Ultimate fire power!
...Shit...

If lightning strikes just once in my life then I'll keep on rolling till I'm home

Do you remember rounders on the top field? Playing 'three and in' in your Dunlop Green Flash? Getting chucked in the park lake by the thick lads on the way back from school? Actually when I think about it, when I was 13 I was a deeply unpopular child... 13... Thank God I'm not 13...

Quotes:
Dan: Thirteen is a nostalgia song about wanting to be thirteen again - the good old days while my mind was full of the purer things in life (spaceships, telescopes and my ZX Spectrum computer). By the end of the song I realise it was shit after all - being small and not fitting in with the so-called cool ones. We recorded this in 1997 in my bedroom, long before the record industry had heard of us, though we had done a couple of little gigs in front of mates by then. During our first few months as a band there was a certain freedom and unpredictability about our music, though it never quite sounded natural. Still, it's great to dig out and old demo and show you a glimpse of our early selves. My fave line is... 'playing three and in in my Dunlop Green Flash,' though I'm also glad to have slipped in 'Z80A' - the machine code language for the ZX spectrum, which I tried and failed to teach myself one summer. Basic was more my thing.
